Static Shock: Blackout trailer
A year ago today Dwayne McDuffie, writer of well represented POC, LGBT, realistic super hero tales and creator of Static Shock, passed away leaving his legacy that shaped my own and many other childhoods behind. After a few years of fanagling with legal jargon, DC comics gained the rights to Virgil Hawkins/Static Shock a few years back and gave him is own series that ran well in the past DCU but is now to be dropped in just a few issues in the new 52.
(He has been confirmed to become part of the Teen Titans however. We’ll see how that works out)
Despite DC’s bumbling, the fact that McDuffie’s hero sparked so many imaginations still stands strong today. So now Stefan Dezil, fan of McDuffie and Static, has begun work on a 12 minute Static Shock short film told through the sequence of events of Static’s in canon girlfriend Daisy Watkins which will be released online for free in March. Can we stand back and appreciate this? A POC hero getting some real fan love? It does the heart good to see. Even though DC may have dropped the ball with Static thus far this project and fans of McDuffie’s work of equality and heroics will never let Virgil’s mega-watt amazingness die.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
